Course Details

The scenic route will include sections of two scenic city parks designed by the esteemed Frederick Law Olmsted, historic Churchill Downs, Louisville's newly developed waterfront, a skate park, Southern Indiana and several eclectic neighborhoods. Runners in the Derby Festival Marathon & minimarathon will start their race at the same time and location @ 3rd Street and Rochester Drive near Iroquois Manor. Marathon runners will follow the miniMarathon route until the Mile 10.5. Runners of the Marathon will split off the course at 7th and Breckinridge, turning right, completing the 26.2-mile distance. The Marathon route will continue east on Breckinridge to Barret Avenue, through the Highlands area and Cherokee Park, along Cherokee Road to Baxter, Main, 2nd Street Bridge crossing into Southern Indiana, returning to Kentucky, eventually rejoining the miniMarathon route at 3rd and Main.. The Marathon finish line will share the same location as the miniMarathon at Preston and Witherspoon Street. The course will include 14 water and 11 Powerade stops, 8 of them after runners split off onto the Marathon course.

Course Restrictions

Absolutely no participant is allowed on the course prior to 7:30 a.m. (EDT). Any participant on the racecourse before 7:30 a.m. will be disqualified and asked to leave the racecourse. The following are strictly prohibited at all times:

  • Roller Skates (including in-line skate)
  • Bicycles (including hand crank bicycles)
  • Baby Strollers
  • Animals

NOTE: Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon & miniMarathon race officials have the right to disqualify or remove from the course any participant whose activity violates any condition set forth or who poses any potential harm to himself/herself or any other participant. Maximum time limit is 6:00:00 (6 hours).
