The Kentucky Derby Festival is proud to present Kentucky's largest day of road racing with the Meijer Derby Festival miniMarathon and the Meijer Derby Festival Marathon. Approximately 10,000 runners are expected to take to the streets of Louisville on Saturday, April 26th. Below you will find information on press credentials, media guides, race week events, and results access.

Media Guide
To obtain a Kentucky Derby Festival Media Guide in advance of the races, email aboyd@kdf.org. They will be available the first of April. The previous year’s media guide is also still available for reference. Media guides will also be distributed with race credentials.

Press Credentials
Local Media will receive press credentials through their assignment editor. Press credentials for regional or national media will be distributed through the Derby Festival Press Office. Please contact the Press Office for more information at (502) 584-3378, ext. 822. On race day, members of the media must wear their press credentials and carry valid photo identification.

START Location
The official start is in south Louisville on Southern Parkway in front of Iroquois Middle School.  There is limited media parking at Iroquois Middle School. Media should be on location no later than 5:30 AM as roads will close when runners arrive.

FINISH Location
The Finish Line is downtown at the intersection of 6th and Market Streets. There is limited open bleacher viewing for the public. Media must have Finish Line credentials for access to the photo box at the finish.

RUNNERS REUNITE AREA
The media is welcome to cover this area for post- race interviews. It will take place at the property in front of the Aegon Building (4th and Jefferson) -several blocks beyond the finish.

Press Credential Distribution
Local Media will receive press credentials through their assignment editor. Press credentials for regional or national media will be distributed at the Derby Festival Marathon Running Wild Expo at the location and times listed below:

Thursday, April 26 11 AM - 6 PM
Friday, April 27 11 AM - 9 PM
Kentucky International Convention Center Cascade Ballroom

On race day, members of the media must wear their press credentials and carry valid photo identification.

Race Day Results and Press Officer Access
There is no race day press room available. Working media can locate members of the Meijer Derby Festival Marathon Press Staff at the Start and Finish by contacting via cell phone (contact numbers will be listed on all credentials). Race results for the top three finishers in each division will be distributed to credentialed media at the Finish and posted online by 1 PM. Complete results will be available at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com by 6 PM.

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Bluegrass Family Health Expo featuring T-shirt/Packet Pickup, Goodie Bags, Late Registration (If entries are available), Guest Speakers and Numerous Exhibitors.
11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Chow Wagon featuring free live music.
Come join us for lunch, the concession areas will be open, and get motivated about the race!
   
Friday, April 25th, 2008
11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Bluegrass Family Health Expo Continues..
11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Chow Wagon featuring free live music.
5:30 - 8:30 p.m. - Pasta Dinner & Live Music.
Tickets available on entry form, $9 adult, $6 children. (Tax included) Come join us for some added excitement this year.  
9 p.m. Derby Festival Great Balloon Glow.  See 50 hot air balloons glow against the night sky.  Details about other KDF events online at www.kdf.org
 
Saturday April 26th, 2008
5:15 a.m. Shuttle busses from the Kentucky International Convention Center begin to take runners to the start.
5:30-6:30 a.m. Late Packet Pickup at Kentucky International Convention Center (Packets will not be available at the start line).
6:20 a.m. Wheelchair participant bus leaves for start line.  Bus will load on 3rd & Market.
6:30 a.m. Last bus leaves for start line
7:15 a.m. All runners report to start line.
7:25 a.m. Wheelchair participant Start
7:30 a.m. Marathon/miniMarathon & Relays Start
9:15 a.m. Newcut road reopens to traffic
10 a.m. Post Race party starts. 
11 a.m. Live horse racing begins at Churchill Downs (Home of the Kentucky Derby).
11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Chow Wagon featuring free live music.
1:30 p.m. Finish Line Closes
2 p.m.  Post Race party ends.
